Baden-Württemberg: Minister of the Interior Strobl is campaigning for a faster expulsion of criminal foreigners
According to Minister of the Interior Strobl (CDU), Baden-Württemberg wants to deport more criminal foreigners in the future. He called on the federal government to take action to make this possible.
Strobl said in Stuttgart on Tuesday: "We have to send the clear message: Anyone who commits crimes here has forfeited their right to stay in our country."
According to him, the federal government must tighten the Residence Act. "We need to lower the hurdles for deportations, shorten the asylum procedures, and close the loopholes that the EU's asylum directives have opened up for criminals," demanded the CDU politician.
Strobl spoke out in favor of a European "database on criminal foreigners" so that criminals could be detected more quickly when they entered other EU countries. Such a database is currently not permitted under EU data protection law.
Strobl also called for more video surveillance in public spaces. "We need more surveillance cameras to deter potential criminals and to help solve crimes," he said.
The Minister of the Interior pointed out that a large number of criminal foreigners were currently in custody in Baden-Württemberg. "We have around 400 foreign criminals in prison. This is almost 15 percent of the total prison population," said Strobl.
In 2022, around 2100 criminal foreigners were deported from Baden-Württemberg, according to the Ministry of the Interior. These included 810 people who had committed serious crimes.
