Hugh Freeze to Earn $65 Million Annually at Auburn
Auburn's New Coach Signs Lucrative Six-Year Deal
Estimated Salary: $390 Million
Former Liberty coach Hugh Freeze has agreed to a six-year, $390 million contract with Auburn University, making him the highest-paid coach in the Group of Five conferences.
The contract, which was announced Monday, reportedly includes a base salary of $65 million per year. Freeze's annual salary will also surpass that of coaches in Power Five conferences, such as Alabama's Nick Saban and Georgia's Kirby Smart.
Freeze's new contract comes less than a year after he signed an extension with Liberty through 2028 worth about $4 million per year. The blockbuster deal highlights the growing financial strength of Group of Five programs, which have been gaining momentum in recent years.
